House Resolution 43

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING REPRESENTATIVE JIMMY GREEN FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

WHEREAS, Representative Jimmy Green of Itta Bena, Mississippi, has been a member of the House of Representatives since being elected in 1983; and

WHEREAS, Representative Green, the youngest of five children, was born near Sumner, Mississippi, on September 29, 1921, and due to flooding, his father, G.W. Green, moved his family from Tallahatchie County to new ground in LeFlore County; and

WHEREAS, Representative Green farmed with his father until the bombing of Pearl Harbor, when he joined the military and was sent to serve his country in England as a crew chief of a B-17, winning a Bronze Star and unit citations; and

WHEREAS, Representative Green was elected to the LeFlore County School Board in June 1953, and was chosen to serve as the board's president; and

WHEREAS, serving Leflore County on a local level for 20 years, Representative Green was elected to the board of supervisors in 1960, and he played a major role in building an industrial base and presenting a positive image of Greenwood and Leflore County; and

WHEREAS, while serving on the board of supervisors, Representative Green was selected as the board's president and served as President of the Greenwood-LeFlore County Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, Representative Green, Chairman of the House County Affairs Committee, serves on the Agriculture Committee, the Conservation and Water Resources Committee, the Public Utilities Committee and the Ways and Means Committee; and

WHEREAS, during his legislative career, Representative Green has helped with the passage of many important bills, including bills that secured funding for a new National Guard Armory; replaced the gravel shoulders of U.S. Highway 82 and Highway 49 bypass with paved shoulders, preventing loose gravel from continuing to be a hazard; and that funded the overlay of the access road from U.S. Highway 82 to the Greenwood-LeFlore Airport; and

WHEREAS, Representative Green has been lovingly supported in all his endeavors by his beautiful wife, the former Barbara Hull; their son, Doug and his wife, Peggy; and two grandchildren, Jay and Hal; and

WHEREAS, Representative Green has honorably and humbly served the House of Representatives personally sacrificing many hours attending to affairs of the citizens of LeFlore County and the citizens of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and express sincere appreciation to Representative Jimmy Green for his many contributions to the legislative process and the State of Mississippi and extend to him our heartiest wishes for success in all his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Representative Green and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
